Eric Daigre has spent the last 20 years listening, learning, and growing alongside his students as a community-engaged educator, teaching service-learning and civic engagement courses in the English Department at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. In "Literacy and American Cultural Diversity," students explore concepts of literacy and multicultural education in a pluralist democracy. In the companion courses "Protest Literature and Community Action" and Social Movements and Community Education," students examine the links between education and community organizing. Both Eric and the students bridge theory and practice by working at libraries, democratic education initiatives, adult ELL centers, poetry and spoken word nonprofits, a variety of K-12 schools and programs, and local social-justice organizations.
