The Solar System Exploration Division at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center conducts theoretical and experimental research to explore the solar system and understand the formation and evolution of planetary systems. In collaboration with other US and international partners, the Division supports a wide variety of missions and instrument based planetary science investigations as well as modeling, and laboratory studies. Interdisciplinary studies link these activities to research activities in astrophysics, heliophysics, and Earth science. Laboratories within the Division investigate areas as diverse as astrochemistry, planetary atmospheres and surfaces, solar system habitable environments, extraterrestrial life detection methods, extrasolar planetary systems, planetary geodynamics, space geodesy, and comparative planetary studies.
