Lost and Found



If you find an item in a DPS meeting room, please bring it to the AAS Registration Desk before the closed of the day. The items will be turned into security at the end of each day. To retrieve items, please call security at extension 2200.



Medical Emergency



  • If EMTs are not present, contact security at extension 2200. Pass on status of injured person: injury and apparent cause, approximate age, gender, breathing pattern, state of consciousness, and other personal medical information (diabetic, etc.).
  • Unless properly trained, do not attempt to render first aid.
  • Do not attempt to move any injured person unless they are in immediate danger.
  • An AED unit is located in the following locations: Level 1 by First Aid sign, Level 2 by north restrooms, and Level 3 by south elevators.
Active Shooter



When an Active Shooter is in your vicinity:



  • Evacuate:
    • Have an escape route and plan in mind.
    • Leave your belongings behind.
    • Keep your hands visible.


  • Hide Out:
    • Hide in an area out of the shooter's view.
    • Block entry to your hiding place and lock the doors.
    • Completely silence your cell phone (not on vibrate).


  • Take Action:
    • Only as a last resort and only when your life is in imminent danger.
    • Attempt to incapacitate the shooter.
    • Act with physical aggression and throw items at the active shooter. Attack the shooter with another person, if possible.


How to Respond When Law Enforcement Arrives:



  • Remain calm and follow instructions.
  • Put down any items in your hands (i.e. bags, jackets).
  • Raise hands and spread fingers.
  • Keep hands visible at all times.
  • Avoid quick movements towards officers.
  • Avoid pointing, screaming, or yelling.
  • Do not stop to ask officers for help or direction when evacuating.


Tornado-Severe Weather



Remain indoors. Stay away from all windows, glass, open stairways, and outside walls.

Do not use elevators or escalators.

Congregate back of house on Level 1 in the south corridor. Try to keep as many walls and ceilings between you and the storm.

Operations Manager's office becomes the Command Center.

Remain stationary until tornado ceases.

Respond to injured persons when personal damage is minimal. Perform only the first aid techniques that you have been trained in.

Follow evacuation procedures if and when notified by Incident Commander.



Severe Weather Watch: Conditions conducive to development of severe weather in and close to the watch area.



Severe Weather Warning: Severe weather has been observed by spotters or indicated on radar, and is occurring or imminent in the warning area.



Regardless if the building appears to be undamaged, do not use matches, candles, or cigarette lighters or turn electrical switches on or off until the facility has been checked for gas leaks.





Earthquakes



Remain indoors.

DROP to the ground. Take COVER by getting under a sturdy table, counter, or other piece of furniture; and HOLD ON until the shaking stops. If there is no table or desk near you, cover your face and head with your arms and crouch in an inside corner of the building.

Stay away from all windows, glass, open stairways, and outside walls.

Use a doorway for shelter only if it is close by and if you know it is a strongly supported, load bearing doorway.

Be prepared for aftershocks.

Watch out for falling objects and open doors carefully.

Do not use elevator or escalator until they are cleared for use.

Do not move seriously injured persons unless they are in immediate danger.

Perform only the first aid techniques that you have been trained in. Notify Incident Commander of situation.

Minimal use of telephones is encouraged as they may be needed for emergency response personnel.

Follow evacuation procedures if and when you are notified to do so.

Report to an evacuation location.

Civil Disturbance



Call 911 and security immediately if the following occurs:

Fights.

Riots.

Willful physical damage of the facility.

Actions aimed at disrupting facility operations or events.



If confronted by a threatening person(s):

  • Listen to the individual(s) and let them do most of the talking.
  • Use communication that does not generate hostility.
  • Do not use body language or speech that challenges the individual.

Do not stand between the disagreeing parties. Remove yourself from harm's way.

Isolate the disturbance by clearing the area.

If the disturbance is outside, secure all doors.

  • Contact 911 if necessary.
