How can data play a role in storytelling by marginalized communities? We will share a new element to Rising Voices' digital inclusion work through an experimental collaborative project with the NewsFrames Initiative (https://newsframes.globalvoices.org). In this pilot effort, we will share how we have been working side-by-side with indigenous communities in Ecuador to collaboratively analyze data generated around their own media coverage. Are the narratives found in the media about these communities or issues they hold important are being portrayed, misrepresented or ignored altogether?

After sharing some examples of how we have been at work, attendees will be invited to comment on whether a similar model may work with communities with whom they work. We also plan to provide open time to discuss the challenges in representing indigenous communities, as well as to try to identify opportunities for creating resources around this area that can be utilized by others.

This is a Learning Forum session.
