2018 ELCA Southeastern Synod Assembly

Welcome to the website for the 2018 ELCA Southeastern Synod Assembly! We are glad you are here and look forward to working with you in preparation for your time at the 2018 Assembly in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Under this year's theme, Reformation 500…Now What?, we will continue to think about the ways that the church is called to be an ever-reforming one. Here in the Southeastern Synod, with the election of a new bishop in 2019 ahead of us, we must begin to think together about the leadership needs of this synod. What do our congregations and our ministries need to equip them to live out God's call as people of faith? What gifts, skills and vision does the next bishop need to lead? At this Assembly we will initiate an intentional year-long discernment process to inform the 2019 bishop election. As we plan for our time together in Chattanooga in June, we do so hopeful for open and honest dialog with one another that will yield a profile of who we are as the Southeastern Synod and who God might be calling to serve as its bishop into the future.

To help us in this exploration, we welcome Deacon Sue Rothmeyer as our Churchwide Representative. Deacon Rothmeyer serves the ELCA as Assistant to the Secretary, Executive for the Office of the Secretary Administration.

We are pleased to welcome back the Rev. Karen Castillo, President, Iglesia Luterana Agustina de Guatemala. Pr. Castillo will serve as our speaker at the Global Mission breakfast.

The success of our Assembly is largely dependent upon the participation of all who attend. In addition to the plenary sessions, we hope that you will take advantage of the workshops, worship services and the service project offered, as well as the lunchtime and evening events.

You will find some of the information about these activities on the website and app today. Additional information will be posted soon. We encourage you to check back often as materials will be posted as they become available between now and the start of the Assembly. If you will be using a mobile device to access your materials for Assembly and have not yet downloaded the app from Guidebook, please do so now. There is a "Download Guide" button in the top right corner of this screen to assist you.

We look forward to our gathering and, as always, we welcome your prayers for our Synod Assembly.
