Founded in 1994, on the former site of the United States Army Post- Fort Ord, community leaders and educators established California State University of Monterey Bay. The faculty and staff on our campus continue to expand upon the legacy as we explore innovative ways to meet the needs of the new generation of students while jointly powering the Monterey County. Cal State Monterey Bay provides extraordinary opportunities to our diverse student body of 7,500, pursing degrees in 25 undergraduate and seven graduate majors.
Cal State Monterey Bay serves students throughout the state of California, the nation, and even internationally. We pride ourselves on making higher education accessible to populations traditionally considered low-income and under-served. At our institution, 38 percent of our undergraduate students come from the Monterey, San Benito, and Santa Cruz counties; 72 percent of students recieve some form of financial aid; 53 percent of students are first generation in their family to go to college; and 52 percent of students live on campus.
