Called the all spice tree because of it leaves and berries. Crush a leaf or berry to smell and taste. The berries are harvested unripened, dried and used for cooking. The tree is a combination of three spices. Clove, Nutmeg, and cinnamon.
The leaves are large and leathery, about 8 inches long by 2 inches wide. The fruits are about 0.33 inch diameter, near globose, produced in clusters of a dozen or more at or near the terminals of branches. The trunk of this tree has beautiful variations of grey and bark like the guava tree, yet dry. Native to tropical America.
