In Ancient Hawaii the Kukui nut oil was used to make light. Wicks were made from the spine of the frond leaf of the coconut palm, the first candles were made of candlenut. When many nuts were used together, they would burn for many hours and these were the first torches.
These large trees grow up to 60 feet tall, easily distinguished by their light green foliage. Also recognizable by their distinct leaf shapes, beautiful white flower clusters and nuts, which have variations of black brown and white.
