Dr. Duane Hagelgans has been involved in the emergency services for over 35 years. He teaches Emergency Management at Millersville University. In addition, he does research through the Center for Disaster Research and Education, on issues involving Disaster Preparedness from both the responder and the community aspects. He has been working and volunteering in the EM field for over 20 years. He retired in 2011 from the City of Lancaster, Bureau of Fire, where he held numerous positions including Emergency Management Coordinator. He is the EMC for a new regional emergency management zone. He currently serves on the South Central Pa. Task Force, an eight county regional emergency management task force. As a member of the SCTF IMT he was one of the responders to the 2006 Nickel Mines Amish School shooting. Duane has given presentations both nationally and regionally on issue of emergency management. He is an instructor for FEMA, where he teaches the National Emergency Management Academy and also instructs in their train the trainer program. He sits on various emergency management committees, including IAEMs Conference Committee and Training and Education Committee.
