Assistant Chief Joseph Dixon has been with the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services since 1993. Currently the Ops. Chief, he is no stranger to EM and has received multiple awards for work to improve community preparedness and resilience. His Low Cost/High Value Community Risk Reduction program was presented to the international fire service community at the 2015 convention of the IAFC. He works closely with OEM within his organization and has supported activations/operations in a variety of capacities through all phases. Chief Dixon is an adjunct instructor with the University of Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute, and a graduate of both the National Fire Academys Executive Fire Officer Program and the Carl Holmes Executive Development Institute. He holds a bachelors in fire science from the University of Maryland University College and a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership from Warldorf College. His advanced professional certifications include Fire Investigator, Fire Officer IV, Hazardous Materials Technician, Fire Instructor III, Chief Fire Officer (CFO) designation, and of course CEM.
