Jon first got involved with disaster relief when he was serving in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Fitzgerald (DDG-62). Immediately after the 2004 Indonesian Tsunami, Jon deployed to the Indian Ocean to support the survivors by making potable water and transporting it ashore. It's then Jon realized he found his passion for disaster relief. After four years in the Navy, he moved to Long Beach and received an A.S. in Fire Science from Long Beach City College and a B.A. in International Studies from California State University Long Beach. After graduating from college, he took an internship with the City of Los Angeles Emergency Management Department where he spent the next 2.5 years learning municipal emergency management. Jon moved on to take a position with the American Red Cross Los Angeles Region as a Disaster Program Manager delivering services to Los Angeles, Kern, Inyo, and Mono counties. Jon then accepted a position as the Business Continuity and Emergency Operations Officer for California State University Los Angeles. He returned to the City of Los Angeles Emergency Management Department in May 2018 as an Emergency Management Coordinator.
