Since 2005, Mark Jackson has been the meteorologist in charge for NOAA's National Weather Service Office (NWS) in Oxnard, California – serving the communities and emergency management of Los Angeles, Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo Counties. This is an area with a population of just over 12 million people that face a spectrum of weather and climate events, most namely dangerous wildfires and floods. During his over 20 years in the NWS, Mark also served as a science and operations officer in two field offices and as a regional scientist. He has served on several high level NWS teams, including the team to develop the 2011 Strategic Plan of a Weather-Ready Nation, and most recently the team chartered to evolve the NWS to achieve the vision of a Weather-Ready Nation.
