Katie LaBelle Edwards is a meteorologist who currently serves as the Impact-Based Decision Support Services (IDSS) Program Manager at National Weather Service (NWS) Headquarters in Silver Spring, Maryland. She is responsible for managing national IDSS policy, training development and the national Deployment-Ready Program. She also works occasional weather shifts for the NWS National Operations Center.
Prior to her current position, beginning in 2014, she served as the Executive Officer in the NWS Communications Office, where she led communications efforts for large scale projects such as the NWS Headquarters Reorganization and the Operations and Workforce Analysis (OWA) project. She later assumed leadership of the OWA project to its completion in 2016.
In 2012, Katie was selected to be the NWS representative for the Program Coordination Office, a NOAA leadership development program, and moved to Washington, D.C. She worked as advisory staff for the NWS Director for one year and then as the primary NWS advisor for the NOAA Administrator. Prior to this, Katie was an operation forecaster at NWS offices Anchorage, Alaska; Sterling, Virginia; Las Vegas, Nevada and Reno, Nevada.
Katie graduated from Penn State University with a degree in Meteorology and is also a certified first responder and member of the U.S. National Ski Patrol association.
