In India, more than 150 million organizations comprising of nano and micro enterprises form a part of informal economy. These enterprises work in some form of traditional art and craft across 2000 clusters throughout the country. This entire sector highly dependent on market linkages to sell their exquisite products continues to remain digitally excluded and disconnected from the global market.
We at Digital Empowerment Foundation (DEF) have created a sustainable model to transform the lives of rural underserved artisan communities and help them regain their status as digital designers and linked them with mainstream markets through ecommerce and social media.
The session will provide an overview of how digital media and information literacy (DMIL) has empowered these communities to expand their reach and leverage national and global opportunities.
