This is a series of works that came out of a residency carried out in early 2018 in Tokyo, with the Japanese Ministry of Culture-supported Creator Ikusei
project. Qualitative research into transgender life in Japan is represented in a playful and interactive form, drawing heavily from familiar interaction design patterns such as Tamagotchi-style virtual pets and role-playing game multiple-choice dialogue systems. The player gets to be the ethnographer, choosing dialogue options to ask questions - the answers come verbatim from interview content. This project was partially supported by Making Ways
, as part of the Arts Council-funded Sheffield City of Makers programme.
