About the Assembly

Date & Place: Aug. 5-10, 2019, Wisconsin Center, 400 W. Wisconsin Ave., Milwaukee, WI 53203

Voting Members: 927 voting members from 65 synods and more than 9,100 congregations serving on behalf of the more than 3.5 million baptized members of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America

Assembly Business: The ELCA Churchwide Assembly, the primary decision-making body of the church, is a process of communal spiritual discernment. To learn more about the assembly business, please review the Order of Business file in the "Schedule and Events" section of the guide.

Worship: Gathered by the Holy Spirit around the means of grace in worship, we are rooted and nourished by God's grace through word and sacrament. In addition to opening and closing worship, we will gather throughout the week for mid-day services of Holy Communion in the Ballroom. Check back later for more information about the leaders, readings, music, offerings and other worship information.

Where to get help
Registration Desk: If you need help during the assembly, the registration desk will be staffed during the following hours:
Monday, August 5: 11 a.m.-9:30 p.m.
Tuesday, August 6: 7:30 a.m.-8 p.m.
Wednesday, August 7: 7:30 a.m.-6 p.m.
Thursday, August 8: 7:30 a.m.-6 p.m.
Friday, August 9: 7:30 a.m.-6 p.m.
Saturday, August 10: 8 a.m.-1 p.m.

Emergency medical technicians: Medical personnel will be available throughout the week to assist with any medical situations that occur from serious emergencies to minor cuts. They have a first aid office on the first floor by the Ballroom and they will be present near the registration desks outside Hall C and in the back of Hall A/B during plenary sessions. In case of a serious medical emergency, we will have trained staff in the areas to assist you in reaching the EMTs or you can contact a person with a walkie talkie.

Technology: If you need assistance with your ELCA-issued iPad or voting machine device, the Tech Support table is located in the back of Hall A/B. If you need to charge your electronic devices, charging stations will be available in the plenary hall (Hall A/B) at the end of each table, at Rest & Recharge stations outside Hall A/B/C/D and inside Hall D throughout the week.
