Who are we creating college and postsecondary access for? In Virginia, we lead the nation in the number of students sent to the police, who are disproportionately black (Center for Public Integrity). Virginia has also been designated “A High Priority to Achieve Basic Equality”, the lowest rating a state can receive (the Human Rights Campaign annual State Equality Index Report), due to failure to provide protections for LGBTQ+ people.
How can we utilize intersectionality and Universal Design for Learning which both indicate that addressing the needs of those most in need, addresses the needs of all. Let's build our intersectional college and postsecondary access toolkit together!
