Ken Horst, CEM, MPA

Since 2011, Ken Horst has served as the Assistant Director of Emergency Management for The University of Alabama. Mr. Horst earned both his Bachelor of Science Degree in Administrative Sciences and Master’s in Public Administration from UA. He is a Certified Emergency Manager and a member of the International Association of Emergency Managers. An active member of the Alabama Association of Emergency Managers, he served as the first chair of its Institute of Higher Education Caucus. Prior to his current position, Mr. Horst spent 30 years in the fire service, retiring as Deputy Chief from Tuscaloosa Fire and Rescue Service. While in the fire service, he graduated from the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer Program. He has an extensive background in developing emergency plans and conducting exercises. Mr. Horst is an advocate of public safety education and often speaks to classes about weather safety, emergency preparedness, and emergency management.
