Captain Mark Shepard is the Commander of the Coast Guard National Strike Force (NSF), and the Commanding Officer of the National Strike Force Coordination Center (NSFCC) in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. He leads a Deployable Specialized Force that rapidly deploys to assist Federal On-Scene Coordinators and Incident Commanders in responding to their all hazard incidents and events including Catastrophic Incident Search and Rescue (CISAR), Oil Spill response and Hazardous Substance response. The NSF consists of the NSFCC, Public Information Assist Team (PIAT), Coast Guard-Incident Management Assist Team (CG-IMAT), and three geographically based Strike Teams – Atlantic (AST), Gulf (GST) and Pacific (PST). He is a Coast Guard certified Type 1 Incident Commander and Operations Section Chief, and earned Bachelor of Science and Masters of Art degrees from the State University of New York (SUNY) Maritime College and the U.S. Naval War College respectively.
