Paula Buchanan is a doctoral student in Emergency Management. Her research focuses on how health systems function during disasters, particularly on how to more effectively communicate healthcare issues to target audiences. She is also passionate about using social media, technology, and data visualization tools to effectively communicate with targeted audiences. Ms. Buchanan has professional experience in communications, university-level instruction, and project management. Her work experience includes over ten years as a business school instructor. As an instructor, she has taught courses in both in-person and online formats: Prior to starting her doctoral program, she received a Deans Honor Scholarship, a merit-based scholarship for four years of undergraduate tuition and fees, to attend Tulane University. Ms. Buchanan graduated from Tulane University with a BS in Biology, BA in History, and a minor in Economics. She also has a MBA and MPH with a concentration in Health Systems Management. Ms. Buchanan is a student member of the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM), and also is the Vice President of her student IAEM chapter.
