Suzanne Frew leads The Frew Group, a San Francisco Bay Area federally-certified, small woman-owned business that helps a wide range of public and private sector clients create culturally and socially inclusive policies, programs, communication strategies, and trainings to more effectively build risk resilience and respond to and recover from disasters. She uses innovative strategies such as gamification, design thinking, and other creative non-traditional approaches to more effectively level the playing field to improve cross-cultural collaboration. Suzanne, a dynamic public speaker, consults on communications and resilience initiatives using a lens of cultural competency to operationalize the illusive concept of "whole community." She has served on disaster response and recovery operations throughout the United States, Southeast Asia, Asia Pacific, Caribbean, and Canada. She is an adjunct instructor and course developer with the University of Hawaiis National Disaster Preparedness Center, delivering FEMA courses on community resilience, social media for emergency management, and hazards awareness for community leaders. She is a contributing author to four books and numerous professional articles, a founding member of the Gender and Disaster Network, and a member of the IAEM Emerging Technology Caucus and Diversity Committee and her local CERT. She began her emergency management career in1990 serving FEMA full-time in mitigation and public affairs.
