The goals of the symposia are to increase understanding of the contribution of the gut microbiota to disease pathogenesis and variation in drug response. Participants will also learn novel high-throughput technologies that permit current methods to study the gut microbiome. Presenters will highlight how the gut microbiome interacts with certain xenobiotics such as statins, presenting important implications for therapeutics. Additionally, regulatory issues pertaining to fecal microbial transplantation (FMT), which represents a new class of therapeutics, will be discussed.
