BACKGROUND: PharmGKB is the premier online pharmacogenomics resource with a mission to curate, aggregate and disseminate pharmacogenomic knowledge. PharmGKB curates a variety of PGx information, including published literature, drug labels and genotype-based drug dosing guidelines. Guidelines come from three primary sources (1) the Clinical Pharmacogenetics Implementation Consortium (CPIC), (2) the Dutch Pharmacogenetics Working Group and (3) guidelines published by professional societies (eg. American College of Rheumatology). CPIC is a partnership between PharmGKB and the Pharmacogenomics Research Network (PGRN) whose mission is to disseminate implementable PGx guidelines.
METHODS: PharmGKB curators add CPIC guideline information to the PharmGKB website, including a summary and recommendation table. The curators break the table down into sections based on individual diplotypes and enter each section into the PharmGKB knowledgebase through a web-based tool created specifically for this purpose. All information is stored in the PharmGKB knowledgebase for instant retrieval and display on the website based on user selection.
RESULTS: PharmGKB entries for CPIC guidelines include the extended dosing guideline interactive tool. Users can enter a specific diplotype by selecting from a drop-down list of possible alleles and see targeted information including dosing recommendations based on that diplotype returned.
CONCLUSION: Each PharmGKB entry for a CPIC guideline includes the extended dosing guideline interactive tool. PharmGKB extended dosing guidelines enable users to quickly access diplotype-specific CPIC dosing information, without sifting through large tables of example diplotypes.
