In my first career I worked for 38 years for the San Mateo County Transit District. I started as a Bus Operator and spent 12 years in a variety of positions in the Operations and Maintenance ends of the public transit business. I spent the last 25 years as the Director of Human Resources where I led all employee and labor relations activities, served on numerous panels of arbitration, was the internal arbiter for nonunion employee grievances and served as advocate in arbitration. I retired in 2015.
Because of my extensive background and expertise in the labor relations field, I was selected to be a Fellow at Stanford University. I spent my Fellowship year primarily in the Stanford Law School where I focused on updating and fine tuning my arbitration and mediation skills.
I have a BS in Organizational Behavior from University of San Francisco and an MBA from Notre Dame de Namur University. For my second career, I received formal training as an Arbitrator with the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Services.
