Isabel Safie is a partner in the Employee Benefits Practice Group of Best Best & Krieger LLP. She works with public and private sector clients on the design of employee benefit programs and issues related to those programs. Ms. Safie also advises public agencies on their ability to modify or reduce pension and retiree health benefits under California’s “vested rights” doctrine, and provides guidance on fiduciary obligations under ERISA or state and local pension laws. Additionally, Ms. Safie has substantial experience in designing tax-favored funding vehicles for post-retirement benefits and health benefits, including VEBAs, Section 125 cafeteria plans and health reimbursement arrange¬ments. More recently, Ms. Safie has been assisting public agencies with understanding and implementing pension reform measures and the Affordable Care Act.
Ms. Safie graduated from UCLA School of Law and received her bachelor’s degree in Political Science with a minor in Human Biology from Stanford University.
