Karen Bowers

Karen Bowers is a UCSD Noyce Master Teacher who earned a MA in Teaching and Learning with distinction from National University. She was also chosen as the 2005 American Chemical Society Teacher of the Year and the 2015 San Diego Science Educator Association High School Excellence in Science Teaching Awardee. She was selected for the 2014 Golden Apple Award, which is chosen by popular vote of the student body, and has earned the title of Google Ninja through her implementation of technology in the classroom. Karen has recently presented at the 2015 and 2016 National Science Teachers Conventions in Chicago and Nashville, the 2014, 2015 and 2016 San Diego Science Educators Association's Conferences, and the 2014 California STEM Symposium. She also co-presented at the Next Generation Science Standards State Rollouts One and Two and is scheduled to co-present at Rollout Three as well. Further, Mrs. Bowers serves as the NGSS Support Provider for the Grossmont Union High School District and served as the Science Department Chair at Monte Vista High School for many years. She taught chemistry and science in the high school classroom for the last thirty years. Karen is known for taking her students out of the classroom to catch science in action.
