John Stenger-Smith was born in Philadelphia PA in 1961. He received a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering degree from the University of Delaware in 1984. The best thing about his undergraduate experience was meeting his wife Lisa (married in 1985). He received a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 1989 under the direction of the late Dr. R. W. Lenz. During his graduate studies he attended the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research. He starting working for the Chemistry Division in the Research Department at the China Lake Naval Air Warfare Center in 1989. In 1994 he started teaching Organic Chemistry as an Adjunct. In 2000, he started working part time at China Lake and took a full-time chemistry faculty position in 2000. He has over 125 scientific publications, has over 150 presentation and has 30 inventions. He also hates cilantro as it tastes like dirty soapy socks. He has 3 daughters.<o:p></o:p>
