Andrew Ian Carlson

Andrew Ian Carlson is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Theatre and Dance at UT Austin where he teaches in the Performance as a Public Practice program. As an actor, Andrew has worked with the Great River Shakespeare Festival since 2006 where he has played roles such as Hotspur (Henry IV, Part I), Edmund (King Lear), Orlando (As You Like It), Don Pedro (Much Ado About Nothing) and Hamlet. As a scholar, Andrew has written in a variety of fields. He is a contributing author to the 11th edition of The Essential Theatre and has published essays in Theatre History Studies, The Routledge Companion to Dramaturgy, and American Theatre Magazine. In 2016, Dr. Carlson received the University of Texas Regents' Outstanding Teaching Award.
