Ensemble Background

Once described as "magical" by John Beck (Eastman School of Music Professor Emeritus), the Pickerington North Percussion Ensemble has performed a wide range of literature from Bach to Stravinsky, Cage to Reich, and Colgrass to Westlake. They have performed live music with film, electro-acoustic music, premiered new works for percussion ensemble, and stretched student creativity with free form group improvisation. The ensemble meets twice per week after school November-March, performing annually at S&E, a spring concert, and at the OSU Percussion Ensemble Festival (Dr. Susan Powell, host), where they have received acclaim from guest artists including Anders Astrand, John Beck, Michael Burritt, Bill Cahn, Mark Ford, Neil Grover, and Gary Kvistad. PHSN percussionists perform around 40 events at S&E every year, and have been All-State percussionists 20 times from 2008-2017. 2017 marks the ensemble's second appearance at an OMEA PDC, as they present their program "the World goes aRound."
