Jacobson is a practicing general pediatrician who has served as a member of the Mayo Clinic consulting staff for more than 25 years. He is a full Professor of Pediatrics and recently completed a ten-year term as Chair of the Department of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine. He obtained his medical degree at University of Chicago and completed his pediatric residency at Yale University. Following that, as a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar, he studied quantitative clinical epidemiology under the tutelage of the late Professor Alvan R. Feinstein. He currently conducts research in improving vaccination uptake among primary care populations with particular attention to the HPV vaccine.
