Smoke & Tobacco Policy

Rating ( vote)

San Francisco State is a 100% Smoke/Vapor-Free Campus. Smoking or Vaping of any tobacco/plant-based substance is not permitted on any University properties and immediately adjacent sidewalks or public walkways.

In an effort to improve the health and wellness of everyone who works on or visits a CSU campus, a systemwide executive order was issued in April 2017 directing that all campuses be totally smoke free as of Friday, September 1st, 2017. The ban on smoking applies to SF State students, faculty, staff and anyone else on University grounds including adjacent sidewalks or public walk ways, campus housing properties, parking lots, the downtown campus and the Romberg Tiburon Center. The ban applies to:
• Cigars, cigarettes, cigarillos and pipes
• Electronic cigarettes/e-cigarettes/vapes/ mods/ juuls
• Hookahs
• Other tobacco products (such as chewing tobacco/snuff)
• Plant products (such as marijuana/cannabis)
• Synthetic products (such as synthetic marijuana/cannabis)

A campus task force has been created to support students and the broader San Francisco State community in this transition. Should you wish to participate contact Emily Hops, Health Educator (Alcohol, Tobacco & Other Drugs) at ehops@sfsu.edu.
