Digital storytelling is a community-based workshop practice created for everyday people to tell their own stories using simple digital media tools. Recent examples can be found in community broadcasting and public service media initiatives.

Digital storytelling can be used in various subject classrooms to introduce students to the basic building blocks of narrative and to contribute towards increasing formal literacy skills. It is a highly accessible media production practice that can appeal to both the primary classroom and to the upper secondary classroom as an introduction to documentary units, and can be used across the curriculum.
